What Are the Benefits of a Care Home?

July 14, 2020 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

When we’re kids, we can’t wait to become older. We think that adults have everything figured out, and we want to be just like them. Eventually, we come around, and our years pile up. One of the sad things about us getting older is that our parents age too. It’s a part of life, but it’s not something that goes through your mind until they become seniors.

Just like they were worried about their parents, we worry about ours too. Did they take their daily medicine? Do they have trouble getting out of bed? Will they fall and hurt themselves? No one likes thinking these thoughts, but these kinds of situations happen.

When we're kids, we can't wait to become older. We think that adults have everything figured out, and we want to be just like them. Eventually, we come around, and our years pile up. One of the sad things about us getting older is that our parents age too. It's a part of life, but it's not something that goes through your mind until they become seniors. Just like they were worried about their parents, we worry about ours too. Did they take their daily medicine? Do they have trouble getting out of bed? Will they fall and hurt themselves? No one likes thinking these thoughts, but these kinds of situations happen. Wise people have said that life is circular, and old people behave like kids. When we become adults, we realize that's true. For our kids, there is a solution called kindergarten. But, should we take our seniors to a care home? What are the benefits of a care home? Nursing homes, in recent years, have gotten a bad reputation. When you look at the data factually, that's just a small portion of all nursing homes, and all of those are individual cases. That means there is nothing to worry about. If you're already thinking about the options, there are a few benefits that might give you the nudge to make the decision final. Safety Safety is always priority number one. Our elders like to think that they're still young, and they want to do things as they did in their youth. That's impossible since the human body has its limits. Old age is not anything to be ashamed of. Another thing that happens is the loss of fast-twitch fibers in their muscles. When we trip, we have a knee-jerk reaction to grab onto something or break our fall. Those actions are possible because we have healthy fibers. But, as we get older, we lose them. It's just a part of life. That's why most seniors suffer tremendous injuries from falling down. Their brain is sending a signal to their muscles to break their fall, but there are no strong muscles to do it. In a care home, that wouldn't be an issue. Mainly because they couldn't do anything dangerous on their own. There are nurses 24/7 that are ready and available to look after our loved ones. Additionally, a common problem is seniors not wanting to take their medicine. With a staff well equipped for the job, that won't be a problem. Sending them to a place like Digby Manor, Birmingham is a great option, but make sure to check if there are local ones that are near so you can visit them more often. This is the best way to ensure that our parents will not be a hazard to themselves. Company Humans are social animals. We want to hang out, and we feel comfortable when we're around other people. Our elders are part of a generation that grew up without video games and phones. They're used to being around other people, talking, and hanging out. If they aren't in a care home, they could be completely alone for several hours. Being entirely alone takes a mental toll on anybody, not to mention people who grew up in an extremely social environment. On the other hand, if they go to a nursery, they will have the opportunity to meet new people and be around others that are the same age. Not only that, but their new friends will also be in the same circumstances as them. With them, they can do a lot of activities together. It's important to stimulate both the mind and the body. Things like painting, long walks, playing chess and checkers are among the most popular in these homes. Others devote their time to baking and cooking, and also swimming is getting popular too. No more chores It seems like chores follow us wherever we go. We were doing chores before we even knew about ourselves. They're a part of living in a household, and there's no running away from that. Be it vacuuming, cleaning dust, washing the dishes, ironing, or even cleaning the windows. Something can always be done. The only way the chores stop if there's someone else doing them for you. If your relatives are being taken care of, there's no more paying bills, no more groceries and no more cleaning. All facilities have excellent heating and care which make for fantastic living conditions. You'll know that the food they eat is structured nicely and has all the carbs, protein, and fats. We always worry if our parents are eating enough, and now you can be sure that they are.
