6 Crucial Health Protocols to Enact at Home

November 26, 2020 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

Due to the current epidemic, it has become clear that the world was not prepared to deal with a health crisis of this scale. It also made it apparent that everyone needs to become more aware of what protocols they should have at home when things like this occur. The goal is to drastically reduce the chances of getting sick, even if the contagion occurs almost out of nowhere.

You need to be informed. You need to be prepared. Most important of all, though, you need to make sure that your family understands how serious the danger is.

Get Google Alerts

In essence, Google Alerts are customizable notifications that can alert you about any topic you flag on the search engine site. For example, if you want to be alerted of any new development in the COVID-19 crisis, you do that. By inputting the necessary details and choosing the right topics, your phone will light up with all newsworthy posts. This way, you can keep track of what is going on.

This is one of the best ways for you to stay ahead of the issue and protect your family. Even before the COVID-19 epidemic became global, there were already signs it would. News articles about such a possibility were circulating all around the web, which should have tipped people off. You can’t afford to get caught off guard like this again, so it would be best to stay informed.

Make Sure the Whole Family is Informed

It’s not just you who needs to be informed of what is happening all around the world, though. Your whole family should be made aware of what is going on, both now and in the future. The issue with COVID-19 has shown that government leaders are woefully unprepared to deal with this kind of problem. So, the responsibility to keep your family safe ultimately falls on your family itself.

They must be made aware of pertinent news reports going on and they should know what to do for what scenarios. The matter of protective equipment must be hammered home by you so they understand their importance. It isn’t enough that you tell them to wear a mask, for example. You need to tell them why they are being told to wear a mask and what happens without it.

Simulate Epidemic Scenarios

It’s not enough that you tell your family about what to watch out for if an epidemic occurs once again. You will also need them to know what to do if it occurs and how they can protect themselves. The best way to do this is through simulations where you have your loved ones go through drills. You will give them the necessary guidance and have them practice this once or twice.

The drills themselves don’t need to be too complicated since this is just preparation if the worst should happen. All you are aiming for is to get your family to become familiar with what you are trying to accomplish. This could mean the difference between panicking family members to ones who react the right way. This will also help prevent the mistakes that many people made during the early days of the pandemic.

Stock Up On Critical Items

It’s normal for people to have first-aid kits at home, but those are not enough with the current state. These days, you will also need protective equipment such as face masks, face shields, gloves, disinfectant dispensers, and more. On top of that, you will also need to make sure that the quality of the things you get are up to scratch. This is to ensure that your family will be safe and protected.

In the case of masks, for example, it would be best to choose something like a Europe standard FFP2 Mask. These masks are made of high-quality materials, are designed with optimum safety in mind, and are not risky to use. Too many protective products on the market are substandard and will only provide minimal protection. For your family, you only want the best, and this goes for all PPE items that you get.

Do Independent Research

It is always a good idea to supplement your Google Alerts with independent research as to what is going on. Mind you, the sources of information that you choose can affect the decisions that you make. So, make sure that they are trustworthy and are backed up by actual facts before deciding anything. More to the point, you should make sure that you get your information from real scientists.

There are multiple sources online where peer-reviewed research papers and trustworthy coverage of health news are available for view. When you get the information being offered by these sources, you can be better prepared to protect your family. It is always a good idea to double-check the information that you gather, as well. You can never be too sure about agendas and biased reporting.

Consult with Health Professionals

The last protocol that you need to stick to is to speak with health professionals and consult with them. You need their expertise with regard to specific regulations and steps for the local government. Being aware of what will happen if a pandemic occurs again will help you be more prepared. At the very least, you will be able to adjust faster and won’t have a hard time.

Conclusion

The pandemic has changed lives all over the world but this was largely because of unpreparedness. You want to be ready for the next one if it ever comes. Having health protocols at home will do just that.
