What Do Endocrinologists Treat?

November 16, 2021 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

If your doctor has advised you to see an endocrinologist, your body is probably dealing with conditions related to the glands and hormones. Your primary care doctor runs several tests on you to get to the root cause of the potential problems. And if he suspects hormones to be the cause, he will give you a referral for an Endocrinologist.

Thankfully, you are sure to find some good specialists based on where you live. Find an endocrinologist in the Orlando area if you live in the location and take advantage of specially trained physicians who will work towards restoring the goal of restoring the hormonal balance in the body.

The human endocrine system

The endocrine system in our body is made of a number of glands that secrete different hormones to carry out different functions. These hormones are transported to various organs in every part of the body via the bloodstream to perform specific actions for a specific body part. For instance, some hormones regulate blood pressure while others impact the body growth and development and are responsible for metabolism, reproduction, respiration, etc.

Any under or over secretion of hormones can play havoc with the body systems and disturb the body’s functioning. The hormone imbalance can result because of genetic or environmental factors.

A disturbance in the human endocrine system can lead to certain medical conditions such as Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2, and Goiter. If you suffer from any of these health conditions, you will need an appointment with an endocrinologist who is trained to diagnose and treat diseases due to an imbalance in hormones. Endocrinologists commonly treat metabolic disorders, thyroid diseases, menopause, osteoporosis, infertility, and some cancers.

Endocrinologists perform a series of tests to understand the cause behind the problem and determine the best treatment to improve the medical condition. Some endocrinologists are also involved in clinical research to gain a better understanding of endocrine diseases. Their aim is to look for new ways to treat hormonal imbalances and support the development of new drugs. While some specialize in a single area, others treat a range of endocrine disorders. They often work together with a primary care physician for the follow-up care of the patient. The overall objective is to restore the hormonal balance in a patient’s body.

As endocrinologists are involved with many conditions and diseases, there is a great demand for these specialists. It takes years to become an endocrinologist, and after medical school completion, followed by internal medicine residency training, one has to complete a three-year fellowship in the field of endocrinology to become an endocrinologist.

Get in touch with a reputed endocrinologist in your area, as he is a specialist who can provide the best possible treatment for hormonal conditions. He should carry updated knowledge of hormonal diseases and provide the latest treatments re available to patients. Apart from that, he should be good with people and kind and carry effective communication skills and develop a healthy working relationship with those around him.
