Which vegetable Harvard researchers recommend against cholesterol?

Consuming this awesome vegetable is one of the best ways to increase the beneficial HDL cholesterol in our blood and we recently revealed why that matters (The most effective way to get rid of that nasty cholesterol is to consume MORE cholesterol!?!). According to Dr. Victor Gurewich, MD, cardiology professor at Harvard Medical School, after eating just half of this vegetable or its juice, HDL cholesterol levels will increase by as much as 30% for most people that are suffering from coronary heart disease or having cholesterol problems. The vegetable is, of course, onion. Dr. Gurewich took the idea of using onions to cure cholesterol issues from traditional medicine and started conducting trials at his clinic during the 80s. Onion intake proved beneficial, so much so that he now recommend to all of his patients to regularly consume onions.


Be warned though, the longer you cook onions the more they lose their ability to increase HDL cholesterol levels (cooked onions have other uses and are especially beneficial for treating heart diseases). Dr. Gurewich further states that it is difficult to discover which substance inside the onion is responsible for the increase of HDL cholesterol, since there are more than hundred helpful substances in an onion. Onion therapy has produced incredible results in more than 70% of patients during the clinic trials.

If you are having difficulties eating half an onion per day, eat less but do eat it nonetheless. Any amount will be beneficial in raising the levels of HDL cholesterol. So, next time you are eating onion, remember that you are helping yourself burn bad cholesterol and bettering your general health at the same time. Eat an onion today, your body will thank you for it.
