Most college students are not keen on healthy living. The busy school life and the partying all too often get in the way of eating well and exercising. You may not realize it yet, but the fast college life will have significant health implications later on. You need to take a break once in a while and focus on yourself – even if you have a lot of paperwork to do. Here are some tips on healthy eating that will help you stay fit while in college.

1. Limit Your Alcohol Intake

College students can be terrible drinkers. Someone is always throwing a party somewhere, and it usually seems like everyone is invited. College life is popular for numerous fun events, and at the top of expectations is alcohol.

Don’t get carried away. Too much alcohol is bad for your body. It will place a heavy strain on your liver and weaken your muscles. Go with a soda or juice every once in a while, or just stay indoors more often. Remember that alcohol is not a good stress reliever. If you’re going through hard times in college, it’s better to ask for help. If you are stressed because of paper deadlines and homework, try doing your work as soon as you have it, not waiting for the deadlines. Alternately, a tutor or a paper helper may be of some assistance.

2. Drink Lots of Water

Water is a purifier for your body. It cleans out all the toxins and keeps your internal organs hydrated and healthy. You need about 8 glasses of water a day, but most college students don’t meet this target as they are usually too busy or too occupied.

However, you can still drink the recommended amount of water by carrying a bottle of water around with you everywhere you go – your professor won’t mind if you carry one to class.

3. Limit Your Sugar Intake

Most of the snacks that college students like so much are sugary. They may be sweet, but they are not healthy. Sugar is rich in calories, which lead to weight gain. Sugar has also been blamed for a host of mild health problems that get worse over time.

As such, limit your sugar intake and instead keep healthy snacks at hand. Eating healthy snacks will keep you satisfied and prevent you from being tempted to eat sugary snacks.

4. Limit Your Intake of Fast Foods

It is safe to say that most college students survive on fast foods. No one has the time to cook, and the pizza delivery guy is just a call away. Fast foods may be convenient, but they are certainly not healthy. They are filled with fats and calories, and they have little nutritional value. Also, it’s important to limit salt intake.

Your dining hall has plenty of alternatives for fast foods. You should consider visiting the salad bar sometimes. You can also be an exceptional college student and do some healthy home cooking every once in a while. Also, eat plenty of fruits and veggies.

5. Put Your Phone Away When Eating

How you eat your food matters. Your psychological state at that moment affects how the food you eat is digested. Most college students eat while using their phones. In fact, it seems that most millennials use their phones for a greater part of the day. Take your time to enjoy your food. You may not believe it, but eating while using your phone makes you sad.

6. Sleep

The college nightlife can be thrilling. It is okay to be adventurous and get out every once in a while. Don’t do it so often that you lose sleep. And when you are indoors, try to keep yourself away from the computer. Let yourself go and sleep for the recommended period. You will find that you are more relaxed and energized, ready to take on any day.

Healthy Fitness Tips

College life is busy. When you are not attending class, you are either out with friends or indoors working on a paper. Most college students don’t even think of exercising unless they are into athletics. However, you don’t have to go all the way to stay fit. There are simpler ways to go about it:

1. Stretch in Your Room

You can exercise your body in many ways. For example, stretching flexes your muscles and gets the blood going. It also keeps your joints healthy. Learn how you can stretch and do it in your room every morning before going about your day.

2. Jog

Jogging is fun if you have good scenery to go with. Consider jogging a new way to explore more. Try new routes every other time and just jog. It will get your blood going, strengthen your muscles, and help your body burn fats and calories so that you stay fit and look good.

3. Hit the Gym More Often

Every college has a gym because the administrators know that exercising is healthy and necessary. You don’t have to go to the gym to build your muscles. Simple exercising such as running on the treadmill is sufficient to keep you fit. Running exercises a lot of muscles in your body, all the way from your neck to your legs.

College education is necessary, and your college years are some of the most crucial in your lifetime. Amidst the fun, ensure that your body is healthy and fit and that your academic affairs are in order.
