The Evolving Research on Dietary Facts: What You Need to Know for You and Your Family

January 20, 2022 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

Every year, research reveals new facts that inform the way we live, eat, and take care of our health. Recent research has proven to be particularly insightful, providing useful information about the food we eat and its impact on our health. Most notably, studies have shown that many people do not get sufficient nutrients and vitamins from the food they consume.

In fact, many people are deficient in the vitamins and minerals that are most important to our health. If you’ve recently read about these dietary findings, and you’re wondering how this new information affects your family, it can certainly be overwhelming. Rather than worry, though, you can take action by combatting the nutritional shortcomings that may be affecting your family.

New Dietary Facts to Be Aware Of

There are new recommendations and dietary standards published every year by major health organizations. Many of these publications confirm the findings of previous research, and indeed, that’s recently been the case.

Several studies published in recent years produce the same results, indicating that the majority of Americans — especially children — are highly susceptible to inadequate nutrition due to a subpar diet. In a world that’s saturated with processed foods and fast-food restaurants, this isn’t a surprise, but it should still be a major source of concern for any parent who cares about their child’s diet and wellness.

You might be surprised to learn that even kids who eat a generally healthy diet may be short on vitamins such as vitamin D. Symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency include fatigue, increased incidence of bone fractures, impaired growth, and in severe cases, skeletal deformities.

Vitamin D can be found in foods and drinks such as salmon, eggs, tuna, and orange juice, but picky eaters may be hesitant to partake. Luckily, organic vitamin D drops can be added to nearly any food or drink to mitigate a potential vitamin deficiency and minimize the chance of the aforementioned symptoms.

How to Implement a Health Diet for You and Your Family

In addition to vitamin supplement products, you can ensure your kids get the nutrients they need by implementing a healthy diet for the whole family. The best way to do this is to incorporate foods that are rich in a variety of vitamins. These foods include dark leafy greens, meats such as pork, beef, and lamb, nuts, and avocados.

If you’re having a hard time getting kids to enjoy these foods, look for recipes online that “hide” them in other foods — for example, mac and cheese that’s made with an avocado sauce. You can also supplement kids’ vitamin intake with a product such as the Wellements multivitamin.

Remember that a healthy diet isn’t just about adding vitamins. It’s also about eliminating substances in your food that may be harmful. This prompts the question — are preservatives safe? Though they are practically ubiquitous in processed foods, there is much research that casts doubt on the safety of preservatives. Some of this research has found a correlation between preservatives and health problems such as heart disease and cancer.
