How to Keep Your Relationship Sane When You’re Under Lockdown

June 24, 2020 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

The pandemic is still happening, with many places still under strict lockdown with no end in sight. For most couples, it’s a new world. You may be spending more time together, or more time with your children as well, and this can cause issues.

While you love your spouse, many couples are experiencing some challenges with their relationship during the lockdown. Being in the same house all the time can have an impact. You can find news outlets talking about it and how it poses a risk to your marriage.

Here are some ways for you to keep your relationship up during the pandemic.

Have Your Private Moments

You love your spouse, but there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of private time. While you can’t go out with your friends anymore, what you can do is spend a little time doing a hobby that you yourself enjoy or spending some time in a bath.

When you feel like you can’t escape, having private time can make you feel much happier.

Be Mindful of Communication Breakdowns

When you’re always together, you’re going to be talking more. When you talk more, you may end up with more miscommunications, arguments, and conversations that go nowhere.

Luckily, these can be fixed. One way you can do so is through journaling. Write down your conversations and arguments, and look for flaws in them. For example, if you’re upset that your spouse didn’t take the garbage out right away, you may not have told them when they should take it out. Little miscommunications such as this can easily be fixed, but you do need to be on the lookout for them.

Keep Your Health Up

One way you may have relationship problems is if you start to eat junk food, exercise very little, and drink more often. Nothing’s wrong with the occasional drink or treat, but keeping your health up can improve your mood, along with an eat right type of diet. Eat the right amount of calories most days, try some home exercises, and make sure that you’re not drinking too much. This can improve your mood and make it easier to manage your relationship.

Get Out of the House

As long as you follow the safety

tips and go someplace where there are no people, it’s okay to get out of the house. In fact, fresh air can keep your health up, make it easier for you to fall asleep, and have a lot of other health benefits, too.

For example, you can go to a nature trail, especially one that is untouched by people. While you do so, don’t be afraid to make conversation. Bring the kids, too.

Have Goals

One of the best ways to keep couples together is to share a common goal. Maybe the two of you want to go on a big vacation when this is over, or perhaps you want to renovate the house. Doing this can keep the relationship alive.

With that said, you should also have individual goals as well, bit make sure they don’t interfere with your shared goals too much.

Seek Online Couples Counseling

Finally, if you want to keep your relationship going during the pandemic, one thing you should do is to seek help from an online couples therapy site.

Online therapy is becoming a more popular way of getting mental health advice, and websites like ReGain can provide couples therapy for a fair price. Don’t feel you’ve failed in your relationship because you decided to seek help; plenty of healthy couples go to therapy to improve communication, solve issues, and keep their marriage strong.

With online therapy, you can work your own schedule as well, making it great for couples who have differing lives.

We especially recommend therapy if all of the above isn’t working. Chances are, a therapist can turn things around for your relationship.

Conclusion

After this lockdown is over, the goal should be to come out of it stronger than ever, and not look to the nearest pile of divorce papers. Make sure to keep your relationship as happy as possible, even in a time when it’s anything but.
