What to Look for in Yoga Therapy Training

March 18, 2020 by Melissa Bell Leave a Comment

Deciding to become a yoga therapy teacher can have life-changing implications—for you and the students who you are going to instruct in the future. When it comes to finding yoga therapy training, there are a lot of options to choose from. It would be best if you did not settle for any random class until you find the one that’s right for you. Here are some ways to accomplish that goal.

1. Make Sure the Classes Work for You

It takes time and dedication to go to yoga therapy training. Make sure the classes are in sync with your schedule. If you still need to work a full-time job to ensure that you are financially stable during this transition, then going to a far-away yoga retreat probably isn’t going to work for you. If you can find classes that work around your schedule, find classes held at timings you are comfortable with. This will ensure that you have the time and dedication to see this training through.

2. Look Into the Program’s History

When looking for the right yoga training, you must look into the school’s history. It doesn’t take much to throw together some classes that teach yoga, but getting quality education means finding a school that has been around for a while. It will also mean that you are working with instructors who have a lot of experience and will be able to guide you on this amazing journey to improve your life and the lives of others.

3. Research the Instructors

Speaking of instructors, while you are looking up the school’s history, it’s also a good idea to do some research on the instructors. Some of the things you’ll want to look at include how long they have been teaching and who trained them in their discipline.

Keep in mind that a teacher doesn’t necessarily need to have a long history of teaching under their belt to be a good instructor. The reason you are researching the instructors is to determine if you want to work with them. To get the most out of your yoga therapy training, you have to be comfortable and respect the person. If you are going to learn anything of value, knowing something about them before signing up for the class can help.

4. Look at the Course Syllabus

No matter what discipline of yoga you decide to teach, you will be required to have a minimum number of hours that you dedicate to anatomy, philosophy, history, and posture labs. When it comes to teacher training, each school will bring something different to their program.

Thus, to find the one that’s right for you, take the time to look at the course syllabus to get an idea of what you will be learning. This will ensure that you find the classes that focus on what you enjoy and what you plan on teaching in the future. The wrong classes can discourage you from completing your yoga therapy training, but by taking a few moments to look at the syllabus before signing up, you’ll know what to expect.

It takes time and dedication to become a yoga teacher, but the skills and knowledge you gain from the endeavor can have long-lasting impacts. Finding the right program is imperative, and it will ensure that you are motivated and inspired to see the training through.
